So much love and magic caught in this image! We captured these two newlyweds, reveling in the sweet bliss of celebrating love… while the sun flushed orange as it set over the Mexican Caribbean.

Playaloves.me Founder Laura McNamara caught this couple just outside the Pantheon. The night lighting was silhouetting the young couple perfectly as they shared laughs and… pizza of course! What’s a night out among the majestic, ancient ruins of Rome without pizza?

Speaking of pizza… when the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that’s amore….
This moon couldn’t be more pizza pie orange. Playaloves.me Founder caught this nearly full moon glowing over the Tiber River in Rome, Italy.

Finally, we leave you with two images of the night lights, a beautiful kaleidoscope of oranges, yellows, purples and greens of the Tiber River – Il Fiume Tevere – which separates Rome from Trastevere.

Whether shooting plants, people, objects, or animals, my focus is always on that well selected, well composed, well lit subject matter of distinctive interest, beauty and intrigue. The bulk of my photography work involves travel documentation plus private, public and corporate event coverage… until now.

Playaloves.me Visits El D.F. (Mexico City)

© 2012 Laura McNamara | Playaloves.me (5)

Mexico City © 2012 Laura McNamara | Playaloves.me

Enrique grew up in Mexico City, and his visit churned up nostalgia from past moments lived. Old stomping grounds that seemed to prove some things never change. Yet, familiar routes with unfamiliar facelifts proving that life is ever evolving. Enrique was enchanted with his reacquaintance with an old friend…

As for me, it was my first time visiting the world’s largest city. The heart of Mexico is perched in a broad valley of highlands, amidst a natural fortress of rolling mountains. It’s seemingly eternal spread creeps up smaller peaks, as if threatening to one day claim even the mountaintops as part of its dominion.

Officially, nine million people call El D.F. (Distrito Federal) proper home. But when you consider the entire sprawling urban landscape, Greater Mexico City throbs with more than 21 million people. Plunging yourself into the ever churning chaos, life in Mexican city feels… intense. Exiting and intense.

With little more than a week to visit friends and sightsee, we didn’t have enough time to uncover all of her charm and hidden secrets. But, we did find a few. Please enjoy our visual exploration of El D. F.:

Beachcasting in Playa del Carmen

Boutique hotels, restaurantes and beach clubs line the shore. Sun loungers stretch along the sand. Masseuses bekon from makeshift massage stands. Ferries shuffle back and forth along the horizon. Playa del Carmen today is quite the cosmopolitan beach escape for tourists from around the globe. But, before PdC was a top tropical, vacation hot spot in what is now referred to as the Riviera Maya, it was nothing more than a small, rustic fishing village.

If you’re lucky you can spot locals amidst the hub bub of the lackadaisical beachcombers, wading into the ocean surf from shore and casting off a fishing line or tossing out a fishing net. Usually, you have more luck catching the local fishermen in the early morning or late afternoon, when most of the tourists have left the beach.

Surf fishing, or onshore fishing, is the sport of catching fish standing on the shoreline or wading in the surf. Surf fishing can include casting a lure or bait from all types of shoreline, including rocky jetties, piers and sandy or rocky beaches. Surfcasting or beachcasting refers more specifically to surf fishing from the beach by casting into the surf at or near the shoreline.

5th Avenue Playa del Carmen: Enrique + Mocha

Pet lovers abound in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and the “pet-friendly” atmosphere is growing in the Caribbean vacation hot spot. Many restaurants allow dogs to join their owners on patio or outside seating. Some even offer water and treats to four-legged friends. Locals have unofficially created a mini dog park located at Calle 24 between Avenidas 10 and 20.

Though dogs aren’t allowed on the beach, pet owners can enjoy a long stroll with their “best friends” along the infamous 5th avenue that runs right through the heart of Playa del Carmen…

One of the hottest beaches in Playa del Carmen, Mexico rests at the foot of KOOL Beach Club toward the more northern end of Playa’s beach strip…

Early birds can take advantage of the ocean-view breakfast buffet at just $99 pesos per person. KOOL Beach Club also offers a refreshing pool to paying guests, poolside DJ music and a plethora of lounge chairs lined up for a first-class view of the Mexican Caribbean.

Beachcombers looking for a birds-eye view of the coastline can take advantage of the parasail vendors lined up alongside the beach club. Small catamaran and jet ski rides are also available.

Mix with locals and other tourists alike at the volleyball net located just next to KOOL beach club to the south. Some ex-pats lovingly refer to this area as “Ghetto Beach” in recognition of the ever-evolving graffiti art spray-painted on the beach wall.

The Mayan Bistro Restaurant at Hotel Aventura Mexicana is showing a flair for culinary creativity. First, they unrolled sushi rolls with a Mexican twist in January, offering new inventions such as:

  • Michelada Roll: Our twist on the classic Mexican hangover cure. Cerveza-lime juice, Clamato, Tajin and a dash of Maggi. Sure to clean your pipes.
  • Holy Mole Roll: Served with the “traditional” mole sauce, this delicious concoction is made with chocolate and chilis.
  • Wasabi-Guacamole Roll: If Wasabi hooked up with Guacamole and they had a baby, we’re pretty sure it’d turn out like this. Little spicy, little funky, lot of ‘tude.

And even more… be sure to stop in and check out their Mexican inspired sushi roll menu!

In Februrary, we learned that Chef Marco Maffezzon offers tiramisu lessons. Mmmm… we’ll have to book ourselves for the next one!

And that’s not all…

The Chef, who boasts Italian, French and Mexican culinary know-how dares you to challenge him to any dish. If the Mayan Bistro menu doesn’t reflect what you want, just tell “Chef” what you’re craving and he promises to deliver!

Oh yeah, the Mayan Bistro just fired up their brand new pizza oven this week… stop in for slice!

Tulum holds a charm all its own thanks to the preservation of its natural habit. Although the small pueblo is growing, it is managing to cling to a more rustic image than Cancun and even Playa del Carmen. The hotels that line Tulum’s coastline are nestled behind a curtain of tropical green foliage and cheerful palms that are iconic of “beach paradise.” When this classic style Volkswagon Bug approached, is was the like the cherry on the cake. The final touch to set off the beauty of Tulum’s tropical jungle landscape.
