Local Secret: Chef’s Challenge at the Mayan Bistro
The Mayan Bistro Restaurant at Hotel Aventura Mexicana is showing a flair for culinary creativity. First, they unrolled sushi rolls with a Mexican twist in January, offering new inventions such as:
- Michelada Roll: Our twist on the classic Mexican hangover cure. Cerveza-lime juice, Clamato, Tajin and a dash of Maggi. Sure to clean your pipes.
- Holy Mole Roll: Served with the “traditional” mole sauce, this delicious concoction is made with chocolate and chilis.
- Wasabi-Guacamole Roll: If Wasabi hooked up with Guacamole and they had a baby, we’re pretty sure it’d turn out like this. Little spicy, little funky, lot of ‘tude.

In Februrary, we learned that Chef Marco Maffezzon offers tiramisu lessons. Mmmm… we’ll have to book ourselves for the next one!
And that’s not all…
The Chef, who boasts Italian, French and Mexican culinary know-how dares you to challenge him to any dish. If the Mayan Bistro menu doesn’t reflect what you want, just tell “Chef” what you’re craving and he promises to deliver!
Oh yeah, the Mayan Bistro just fired up their brand new pizza oven this week… stop in for slice!

Landscapes in Tulum
Tulum holds a charm all its own thanks to the preservation of its natural habit. Although the small pueblo is growing, it is managing to cling to a more rustic image than Cancun and even Playa del Carmen. The hotels that line Tulum’s coastline are nestled behind a curtain of tropical green foliage and cheerful palms that are iconic of “beach paradise.” When this classic style Volkswagon Bug approached, is was the like the cherry on the cake. The final touch to set off the beauty of Tulum’s tropical jungle landscape.
Spectacular Skies in Playa del Carmen
The jewel-colored sea of sapphire, turquoise, emerald and azure hues is mesmerizing. We never tire of gazing into the bewitching beauty of the Mexican Caribbean. But, we also remind you to tear your eyes away from the sea, at least every once in a while, to admire the sweeping landscapes of the blue skies above. Yes. This is paradise… everywhere you look.
Playa del Carmen’s Ghetto Beach
Okay. So “Ghetto Beach” might not be its official name, but that’s what many transplant “Playense” have nicknamed it. A hot spot for graffiti, this small stretch of sand rests between beach resort and beach club and often attracts more of the locals. A few makeshift volleyball nets add to its charm, giving the local Playense beachcombers a chance to work up a friendly competition…
